简介：This lecture will deal with Burke's philosophical view of language and four master tropes and point out some important implications for the deconstruction of social reality. Burke, a contemporary rhetorician, literary critic, prolific writer and philosopher, often acclaimed as "Contemporary Aristotle," spearheads the so-called "New Rhetoric," which dominates the landscape of contemporary rhetoric in the United States. Burke takes a dramatistic view of language and holds that four master tropes, namely, metaphor, metonymy, synecdoche and irony, play a crucial role in human life.
邓志勇，博士、教授，现任菠菜资源平台大全副经理、修辞批评研究中心主任，担任中国修辞学会理事、上海外文学会理事、上海语文学会理事。主要研究领域：西方修辞学、修辞批评研究、语体学、语言学、英语写作学研究。2001年在上海外国语大学获得博士学位，2003年12月晋升为教授。先后两次获得国家留学基金委资助分别在美国匹兹堡大学（University of Pittsburgh）（2005.2～2006.2）及德克萨斯大学（奥斯丁）（University of Texas at Austin）（2012.2～2012.7）做访问学者， 2007年入选上海市浦江人才计划。迄今发表学术论文近七十余篇，其中南大版CSSCI及北大版核心论文三十多篇，涉及修辞哲学、修辞理论及其应用、英语写作教学研究、语言学、语体学、翻译理论与实践，出版学术专著三部（《英语写作教学研究》（吉林人民出版社2002） 、《修辞理论与修辞哲学——关于修辞学泰斗肯尼思•伯克的研究》（学林出版社，2011）、《当代美国修辞批评的理论与范式研究》（中国社会科学出版社2015）、高校英语写作教材一部《高级英语写作》（华东师范大学出版社2008），其他编著多部。先后主持并完成国家社科基金项目一项、上海市浦江人才计划项目一项、上海市教材项目一项、校级项目三项。
